MARINE DRIVE RESIDENCE

Minimal intervention and maximum impact was our mantra for this project. Designed in collaboration with Ar. Sonam Savla this space was originally a guest bedroom and dresser, our brief was to retain its use as a guest bedroom while allowing it to function as a Den and Study.
A key design decision was to retain the existing black granite flooring and extend it to the entire room. This alongwith carefully inlayed brass strips, helped set the tone of the space, the black granite acted like a canvas for everything coming next.
FURNITURE LAYOUT

The existing granite flooring embedded with brass strips.

Floating study desk
The wooden slats acts as a screen with the study on one side and the Den on the other. It also allows for a certain separation between the two functions while maintaining the essence of the volume.
The slit over the sliding folding door was planned to allow more light to enter into the room.

The chinoiserie painting an heirloom artefact from a wide collection, contributes to the uniqueness of the space.

The reading nook.

Refurbished chair with a rattan back.

Subtle hues were used in the bathroom to maintain a warm aesthetic.
An opportunity to design in a heritage building was an insightful experience. The intervention planned was keeping this context in mind.
