BUNGALOW AT PALGHAR

The five bedroom residence is proposed for a close knit family that loves to entertain. Form definitely follows function in this design. Spaces are oriented purely as per the functional requirements of the clients.

The required volume is placed on site leaving necessary setbacks and space for landscaping.

The volume is then split along the central axis  which forms the circulation space.

The two halves are further separated to create a central courtyard. This allows spaces to be oriented looking inwards at a light filled courtyard

Common areas like verandahs, living room are placed at either ends of the courtyard which connect the two blocks.

The site is situated just outside Dharje Village in Palghar. The land is relatively flat without much elevation.  The adjacent sites have similar bungalows and hence the need to plan an inward looking space. An east facing main door leads to the ground floor. Stepping in one would see green-scape through the glazing placed opposite. The entrance foyer leads into the double height courtyard with a skylight above.

 

A brick screen separates the inside from the outside at the southern end of the courtyard. Both these features ensure that courtyard is filled with natural light. A similar screen is planned along the length of the decks for the master bedroom and study. This is to allow privacy from the driveway.

The light filled living room facing the front yard is planned to accommodate ten to twelve people.

The first floor plan has four independent bedrooms each with balconies. The recessed balconies act as protection against rain and will also help in cutting glare. The Utility area with a attached dry balcony is planned on this level as well.
